My hope for 2024 is that Trump and Governor DeSantis of Florida will slug it out for the Republican nomination.
Trump has turned into a pitiful figure continually bemoaning his loss in 2020. Big Republican donors are abandoning him in droves.
DeSantis is shrewd, ruthless and ambitious. He is likely to be the Republican candidate.
Well, that was unexpected. Normally you don’t see the Left have anything good to say about conservatives, but he has a clear perspective on this political situation, whether or not he is right.
It is true that Donald Trump can’t seem to stop bringing up the 2020 election. If Trump is doing this on purpose for political reasons, many experts think it is only hurting his candidacy. How can you lead the country forward if you can’t stop looking back at how you believe you were wronged?
On the other hand, Soros clearly thinks DeSantis is “shrewd, ruthless and ambitious.” Maybe not the greatest compliment ever paid in history, but it’s high praise for an effective politician.
Soros went on to say that Trump may be so determined that if he loses the 2024 Republican primary, he may run third party and hand Democrats a landslide victory.
Republicans see that situation as the worst-case scenario. Hopefully Trump, DeSantis, and any other candidates running can work out a way to unite the party after the primary is over.
But at this point the way forward seems unclear. If Soros really believes this is the situation on the ground, expect to see a lot of mud thrown at the Florida governor from the Left.
