Don Lemon Tears Up Talking About Chris Cuomo Testing Positive For Coronavirus

Sharing is caring!

Hours after calling on Americans to stop watching President Donald Trump’s daily coronavirus press briefings, CNN anchor Don Lemon became visibly emotional during the middle of his show.

During a segment Tuesday night on his CNN program, Lemon wiped away tears while emotionally talking about his colleague and friend, Chris Cuomo, testing positive for coronavirus.

“Sorry, I said I wasn’t going to do this. Jesus,” said Lemon, who bowed his head and dabbed his eyes with a tissue during a segment with CNN’s senior global affairs analyst Bianna Golodryga.

“He’s probably at home laughing at me,” Lemon added, before explaining the “great relationship” he has with his colleague.

Cuomo will continue to anchor his show from his home.

Lemon spoke to Cuomo as they transitioned from Cuomo’s show to Lemon’s and Lemon asked him why he was not wearing a suit.

“I’m too sick,” Cuomo told Lemon.  “Christina said it didn’t look right for me to be sick in a funereal suit. It’s too much like what I might be buried in.”

“Yeah? Did she come down there and do some decorating and help you dress?” Lemon said as he laughed.

Nope. Nobody will come anywhere — those stairs are a no-go zone,” Cuomo said. “Even the dogs don’t come.”

“Listen, everybody, don’t get it twisted,” Lemon said. “We know this is very serious. This is how Chris and I interact, we tease each other.”

Cuomo has been anchoring his show “Cuomo Prime Time” from home and was last at CNN’s New York City office last Friday, according to the network, who sent out an employee memo regarding the news.

The statement said Cuomo is feeling well and will continue to anchor his show from his home.

“Soooo in these difficult times that seem to get more difficult and complicated by the day, I just found out that I am positive for coronavirus,” Cuomo tweeted Tuesday.

The CNN anchor wrote that he is quarantining himself in his basement, where he has been filming his show.

“We will all beat this by being smart and tough and united!” Cuomo tweeted.

Cuomo’s brother, Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, addressed the news during a press conference Tuesday.

“Everyone, everyone is subject to this virus. It is the great equalizer. I don’t care how smart or how rich or how powerful you think you are, I don’t care how young or how old. This virus is a great equalizer. My brother, Chris is positive for coronavirus. Found out this morning,” Gov. Cuomo said.

“Now he is going to be fine. He’s young, in good shape, strong – not as strong as he thinks. But, he will be fine. But, there is a lesson in this,” the governor said, adding a little lighthearted humor.

“He’s an essential worker – member of the press – so he’s been out there. You go out there, the chance that you get infected is very high. I spoke to him this morning. And he’s going to be quarantined in his basement at home. He’s just worried about his daughter and his kids, that he hopes he didn’t get them infected,” he added.

Gov. Cuomo added that his brother is “a really sweet, beautiful guy” and his “best friend.”

“He’s at CNN, he does a beautiful job,” the elder brother said. “But a sweet guy and now he’s quarantined in the basement, but he’s funny as hell. He says even the dogs want to come downstairs. But, he is concerned about his wife and kids. But, the reason I raise it is he’s smart, he’s social distancing, yes, but you wind up exposing yourself.”
