Mitt Romney Gloats, Takes Swipe At Trump Abd Obama: ‘The ’80s called and we didn’t answer, shortsightedness of America First

Sharing is caring!

Sen. Mitt Romney gloated after Russia invaded Ukraine in what looks to be a full-scale invasion with the goal to take over the entire country. Romney took a few swipes at former presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump after Romney was loudly mocked for claiming Russia was a big threat.

Romney said: “Putin’s Ukraine invasion is the first time in 80 years that a great power has moved to conquer a sovereign nation. It is without justification, without provocation and without honor.

“Putin’s impunity predictably follows our tepid response to his previous horrors in Georgia and Crimea, our naive efforts at a one-sided ‘reset,’ and the shortsightedness of ‘America First.’

“The ’80s called and we didn’t answer.

“The peril of again looking away from Putin’s tyranny falls not just on the people of the nations he has violated, it falls on America as well.

“History shows that a tyrant’s appetite for conquest is never satiated.

“America and our allies must answer the call to protect freedom by subjecting Putin and Russia to the harshest economic penalties, by expelling them from global institutions, and by committing ourselves to the expansion and modernization of our national defense,” he said.

Biden was also briefed on plans to launch a cyberattack on Russia.

From NBC:

President Joe Biden has been presented with a menu of options for the U.S. to carry out massive cyberattacks designed to disrupt Russia’s ability to sustain its military operations in Ukraine, four people familiar with the deliberations tell NBC News.

Two U.S. intelligence officials, one Western intelligence official and another person briefed on the matter say no final decisions have been made, but they say U.S. intelligence and military cyber warriors are proposing the use of American cyberweapons on a scale never before contemplated.

Among the options: disrupting internet connectivity across Russia, shutting off electric power, and tampering with railroad switches to hamper Russia’s ability to resupply its forces, three of the sources said.

“You could do everything from slow the trains down to have them fall off the tracks,” one person briefed on the matter said.

…The person briefed on the matter said there was a significant divide within the U.S. government, with one camp fearful of escalating and another urging a strong cyber response.
