Retired Three-Star General Gary Volesky Suspended After Tweet at Jill Biden
A retired general may lose a lucrative military contract after challenging a Twitter post by First Lady Jill Biden.
Lt. Gen. Gary Volesky (USA-Ret.), a Silver Star recipient for valor under fire in Iraq, was formerly a top Army spokesman. He was awarded a contract after he retired to mentor military officers and staff at a rate of $92 per hour, according to a USA Today report.
Army spokeswoman Cynthia Smith confirmed to USA Today that Lt. Gen. Volesky was suspended by Lt. Gen. Theodore Martin, commander of the Combined Arms Center, pending an inquiry.
“For nearly 50 years, women have had the right to make our own decisions about our bodies,” Mrs. Biden reportedly remarked in a June 24 Twitter post. “Today, that right was stolen.”
The retired general commented on her post, saying, “”Glad to see you finally know what a woman is.”
President Joe Biden’s administration has championed diversity that extends as far as normalizing individuals who describe themselves as transgender. That has become a hot-button issue for many people after a mediocre male swimmer declared himself a woman and started dominating women’s collegiate swim meets.
Judge Ketanji Brown was asked to define a woman during her Senate hearings to confirm her appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) asked her, “Can you provide a definition for the word ‘woman’?” as she questioned Jackson about a transgender athlete.
“Can I provide a definition? No. I can’t,” Judge Jackson replied.
When the retired general responded to the first lady’s tweet with his in-your-face remark, he crossed a line. It may be an invisible line but consequences come from crossing it.

Volesky may have been emboldened after escaping a similar dustup with Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).
He responded to a Rep. Cheney tweet about the House J6 Committee, saying, “this is all about partisan politics”, according to the USA Today report. The report noted Cheney’s tweet said members of Congress and their “oath to the Constitution must be above partisan politics.”
Like the saying goes, though: “mess with the bull, get the horns.”
