Billionaire Friend Of The Clintons Found Dead Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound In New York City

Billionaire financier and investor Thomas H. Lee was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Manhattan office Thursday morning police sources said. Forbes claimed his net worth was around $2 billion at the time of his death,

Lee is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ann Tennenbaum, and his children Jesse, Zach, Nathan, Robbie, and Rosalie, and two grandchildren. He was found by his assistant in his office bathroom with a single gunshot wound to his head and his Smith & Wesson revolver next to him according to The New York Post.

Lee, 78, was discovered by the female assistant on the floor of the bathroom in his office at the Fifth Avenue headquarters just after 11 a.m. Thursday sources told the Post.

Lee family friend and spokesperson Michael Sitrick said in a statement:

“The family is extremely saddened by Tom’s death. While the world knew him as one of the pioneers in the private equity business and a successful businessman, we knew him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, sibling, friend and philanthropist who always put others’ needs before his own.

“Our hearts are broken. We ask that our privacy be respected and that we be allowed to grieve.”

Lee was close to the Clintons:

“After officially pulling out of the race and endorsing Senator Barack Obama on June 7, it appears that Senator Clinton, along with former President Bill Clinton and their daughter, Chelsea, have sequestered themselves at the oceanfront manse of Thomas H. Lee, a billionaire investor and friend of the Clintons, according to a Democratic Committee source.”
